We have the opportunity to tour the Boston TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach
Control) up in Merrimack New Hampshire. The TRACON is where the air
traffic controllers for Boston Approach and Departure are located, the
controllers you talk to for flight following and for IFR flying. Bob
Adellizi, one of the TRACON controllers who gave a talk to the MITFC
last year, will be showing us around the control room and introducing
us to the radar systems they use to track us while we are flying. It
should be very interesting and a great learning opportunity for current
pilots as well as the aspiring pilot.
We are going up this Sunday, December 2nd, for 9:15 am.
It's about an hour drive, so we'll probably leave the MIT area around
8:00 am. The tour will last around 2 hours, so figure on being back
to MIT around 12:30. Please reply to this email by this Thursday November
29th if you are interested in coming. Unfortunately due to FAA Policy,
all visitors must be US Citizens and also have a valid photo
ID. Also let Jason Maloney know if you have a car or access
to a zip car account, as spots will be dependent on availability of
transportation . We have a couple of cars going now.
